The
prettiest swimming hole in all of Texas, which of course means the prettiest
swimming hole in the world, is a privately-owned park about an hour's
drive west of Austin. It's named Krause Springs after its long-time owners.
Besides their beauty, the Springs are geologically and botanically unique
in the Hill Country. The springs are at the merge of at least two ecosystems.
Notice the huge water cypress trees, out there in the Hill Country. All
the rest of the Hill Country has shallow, rocky topsoil and not much water,
where scrub oaks, mesquite and cacti predominate. |
