Besides
the camping options, there is a good day-use facility at the base, which
provides the view above. The climb takes about 30-45 minutes at a moderate
pace, which you certainly should maintain. The official warning signs advise
a time of two hours each way.
Enchanted
Rock lives up to its name. Yes, it certainly does live, and has aged very
gracefully over its billion-plus years.
By
the mid 1990's, Enchanted Rock State Park had become so popular that access
was restricted by the Texas Depart of Parks and Wildlife. However, as
of late summer 2003, there was no overcrowding that I saw.
