| “Old Red” is the former Dallas County courthouse, now serving as a visitors center. It has received Texas Historic Landmark status. Designed by architect M.A. Orlopp in the Romanesque Revival style, the courthouse was completed in 1892. Union Station, two long blocks away to the west, is a restored railroad terminal that serves Amtrak, and connects to Reunion Tower via an underground tunnel. (I liked the juxtaposition in the left-hand shot against Dallas' tallest skyscraper, the Bank of America tower.) Coincidentally, the film picture at left and the digital picture at right show the frequently-striking differences in earth tones between the two media, old and new. |
